Does Sanātana Dharma (Hindutva) Have Boundaries? What makes anything intelligible? Clearly defined boundaries. They tell us what something is, what it is not, and where it begins and ends.
When the boundaries of a religion cease to be understood, its identity becomes blurred. Many Hindus have come to believe that “all religions are the same” or that “anything goes in the name of Hindu.” But how can one declare all religions to be the same without knowing what any of them teaches? Sita Ram Goel put it succinctly: “The claim of equal truth of all religions is an equal ignorance of all religions.”
It was to address this widespread deficit of doctrinal clarity among Hindus that I wrote Boundaries of Belief: The Hindu Parichaya (Catechism). The book presents the foundational principles of the Hindu religion clearly and coherently, so that Hindus can understand their religion on its own metaphysical terms.
To be released in the next few weeks, the book seeks to restore two essential forms of understanding: SWAYAM BODHA—knowing one’s own religion; and PARA BODHA—understanding what distinguishes it from other religions. Only through such understanding can the boundaries of Sanātana Dharma (Hindutva) be clearly discerned. Pujya Jagadguru Shankaracharya of @jyotirmathah, Swami Shri Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji, has graciously blessed the book with His Foreword and expressed His intention to include it in the introductory curriculum of Jagad Gurukulam.
But writing the book is only the beginning. Its purpose will be fulfilled only when its knowledge reaches Hindus. We have therefore kept the price of the book as low as possible and will distribute free copies, as our resources permit, to those unable to afford them. We will also translate it into other Indian languages, making those editions equally accessible and extending free distribution to those who cannot afford them as our resources permit. The aim is to place Hindu doctrinal knowledge within the reach of as many Hindus as possible, across languages, generations and means. This is a large undertaking requiring sustained resources. धर्मो बोधेन रक्षितः (Religion understood is religion preserved.)

The Literary Genius of the Upanishads
Normally we associate the Veda with Siksa or the chanting and science of enunciation
But the Upanishads are seamlessly connected with the Veda. So much so that any separation between the two often seems arbitrary
The Upanishads are an intuitive understanding of the spiritual experiences lived and described in the Veda
On a literary level the Upanishads are just as brilliant as the Veda. Take for example the first line of Isha Upanishad
ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वं यत्किञ्च जगत्यां जगत् ।
Jagat here in one instance implies the Universe. In the second it brings to our attention all that moves or has gati. Or it can imply the individual movement in the universal motion
This is a yamaka alankara, used beautifully and with great refinement, in a work that is extremely serious and profound. Yet, without this play with the dhatu, how much less effective would it have been in transmitting the Rishi’s realization!

While living in Calcutta, Janakinath came into contact with leaders of the Brahmo Samaj, and their ideas deeply influenced him. His career as a lawyer brought him into contact with various religious and political figures associated with India’s independence movement, starting from turning down the prestigious Rai Bahadur title to every stands he took against the Emperor silently. As a result, he was able to instill many of his ideals and ideas in his family, with Subhas and Sarat among them, from a very young age...
Janakinath wanted to practise law, but he had neither a residence nor any established connections in Calcutta. At the call of his uncle Haraballav, an established lawyer in Cuttack, Janakinath came to Cuttack and began practising there. By 1885, Bose started practising law in the Cuttack court and later became a prominent celebrated lawyer there...
Another incident goes that when Aurobindo Ghosh was caught up in the Alipore Trials, Janakinath also stepped in as a legal adviser to many accused freedom fighters, representing and fighting cases alongside Chittaranjan. Moreover, one of Ghosh’s associates involved in the Alipore case was affected by tuberculosis shortly after his release from Cellular Jail. Aurobindo suggested that only a doctor in Cuttack could heal him. He was taken to Cuttack,

The storms, the Cyclops, the suitors — what readers see as the plot is really the scaffolding. Sri Aurobindo located the poem's greatness in "the adventures and trials and strength and courage of the soul of man in Odysseus." The trials do not merely happen to him. They forge him...
The Odyssey reminds us that we are capable of more than comfort, appetite and possession: of fidelity that endures suffering, of the strength to command and govern ourselves, and of a love that can consent even to letting go. Full article : udaythinks.substack.com/p/the-odyssey-…
On their first night together after twenty years, Odysseus tells her the gods require one more thing of him. He must leave again.
"then there is hope that there will be for you an escape from evils." (23.286)
No weeping. No long speech. The restraint is her heroism.
A thousand years later, Marcus Aurelius would spend a whole book counselling himself toward the inward poise Penelope reveals in that one response. This is where Penelope "left the little lane of human Time."

Liberal democracies around the world are under threat, and Oxford Politics Professor Giovanni Capoccia @gcapoccia1 argues that there’s a paradox that prevents efforts to defend them. bit.ly/4ylseJv Illiberal movements are easiest to stop early, but propaganda and subtle erosion prevent democratic forces from acting quickly, as they don’t realize the threat until it’s too late.

The Ghost of Ctesiphon and Rome: Why Ancient Imperial Logics Still Echo in Modern Geopolitics by Alisha Usmani and Sachin Yadav countercurrents.org/2026/09/the-gh…
Modern states do not simply inherit territory from earlier empires; they can also inherit administrative practices, political assumptions and ideas about sovereignty. The early Islamic caliphate adapted Byzantine and Sasanian institutions before gradually replacing local languages with Arabic. The long rivalry between Rome and Persia likewise produced overlapping traditions of law, administration and imperial power. The article examines how these histories offer a lens for understanding contemporary conflicts involving Russia, Ukraine, China, the United States and Iran. It also considers strategic corridors, sanctions, blockades and economic pressure, while emphasizing the limits of applying ancient imperial patterns to a modern world shaped by nationalism, capitalism and nuclear deterrence.

I particularly enjoy this piece by Bourdieu. He expounds how there can be a collection of individuals in a similar area of social space and have similar amount and types of capital and they may not be a class at all. He says that this would be a class “in theory.” There must be something else that causes that area of social space to become a group. His explanation is that there are factors that must take place for a class to exist. They must be labeled and have someone represent them and be something that distinguishes them from other classes and allows them to see themselves as a group.
Bourdieu takes the concept of “making” in E.P Thompson’s The Making of the English Working Class and runs with it. Classes are not solely created by an area of social space but can be created by conflicts that arise when trying to define the boundaries of our social space. Which results in Bourdieu’s idea of symbolic power. By labeling people as workers, or in a certain occupation or even from a certain state or country can create a class.
Bourdieu does not believe that just by calling something something it will exist. There must be something in social space for that label to apply to and whoever is applying that label must have some kind of power over the class. “To change the world, one has to change the ways of world-making.” This is one of my favorite quotes from this essay, since I feel that it allows us to grasp that there is also conflict in how we view the world and how we define what our world consists of. Who we allow to invent these labels and see them as true. I think Bourdieu does an amazing job at explaining his theory of social space in this short essay but also touches on how labeling things can lead to power.

Not even a century ago, Sri Aurobindo calls discrimination as one of the four faculties of truth consciousness, and many scholars translated viveka-vicakshana as discrimination. The naturalness of phenomena getting replaced with negativity because of ideological spin, is ugly.
