Sincerity is the key. Sri Aurobindo needs to be read around the world.

When I read The Happy Prince, it made a deep impact on my conscience and always me thoughtful about the suffering of the orders. Some stories need discussions in-depth to have them ingrained in our minds and have a part of our personality.

The failure of the BJP to secure an absolute majority in this Lok Sabha election is also being seen as an apparent failure of radical Hindutva, especially in Uttar Pradesh. The party lost its electoral hegemony in the state, unable to even win the symbolic Faizabad (Ayodhya) seat. This is also true about Varanasi. Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi won comfortably, the vote share of the party fell in this constituency as well.

The rejection of the BJP is not a rejection of Hindutva: The building of the temple was popular and communalism is growing. But the BJP made the mistake of thinking this could transform into political capital indefinitely. Whereas voters were asking: What next? The consolidation of Hindutva as a political force in part depended on its ability to deliver a vision of developed India. It did, in some areas that could be dealt with in mission mode. But the fundamental transformations again eluded it. So both caste- and religion-based parties become more attractive if they can convince voters they can govern well.

Why do environmentalists only focus on #globalwarming? Why do existential riskers only focus on #AI? It is the mistaken belief that if you just address one small part of the whole, you can somehow fix all the problems, even the unrelated ones, and save life on Earth.

https://x.com/akazlev/status/1806090482168307917?t=NXFGMDytBoVST9NpnfmnMw&s=19

AI Doomers ignore the seriousness of the environmental crises. The whole "existential risk from AI" narrative stems from the "don't even think about it" problem described by George Marshall in his book of the same name. Understanding existential risk became hijacked by ai-phobia.

https://x.com/akazlev/status/1806073846015140271?t=Q1jzVGf9yqVIIN_xayT__g&s=19

Interesting that he doesn't mention Yuri Bezmenov. I feel this weakens his argument. Woke-critical academia moves in a different filter bubble and echo chamber to popular discourse of people like Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Jordan Peterson. But which narrative better explains the woke?

https://x.com/akazlev/status/1805675859485114384?t=D-MuFLGFfCUvHpROiRuWnA&s=19

The culture war may well become the woke's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) versus the libertarian capitalist Merit, Excellence, and Intelligence (MEI). I don't know if DEI in real life has been misused to the degree my filter bubble says it has.

RIP Progressivism: 2015-2024

When the history books of the progressive era are written, the Sanders campaign will be the first chapter and the Watermelon Freaks will be the final chapter.

We were a quirky, but well meaning political movement that started as a push for universal healthcare and better treatment for minorities.

The problem was, we never came up with any mechanism to regulate our worst ideas. Slowly over the next decade, they became more and more ridiculous. Abolish the police is a great example.

Oppose casteist orthodoxy

 Collated by Tusar Nath Mohapatra

Sri Aurobindo's philosophy wraps around yoga like software around code, turning spiritual practice into an integrated development environment.

Sri Aurobindo's approach was better. Savarkar was a brilliant thinker and sacrificed a lot for India, but that doesn't mean every single thing he said was perfect- would be an unfair bar to judge anyone by.

There are two schools. One which believes world is Maya and one has to escape from it by Moksha.Second school is world is evolving and soul is voluntarily here by Lila of the Divine.Moksha is not the goal but endless evolution.Sri Aurobindo was of the second School.

I follow Sri Aurobindo.Moksha or Liberation would not end the soul's evolution.Earlier it evolved in ignorance ..then it would evolve in Full knowledge..

Sri Aurobindo was an Indian philosopher, yogi, maharishi, poet, and Indian nationalist.

His thoughts and ideas on education were quite reformative, the quote mentioned here is the core of role of a teacher as mentioned in NCF-05.

As our PM chose to highlight and honour Swami Vivekananda in the capstone of his bid for a third straight majority, which he is likely to get - and a campaign in which the opposition tried its very best to divide Hindus on caste - it is important to emphasise that the great Swami (like Aurobindo or Savarkar or Ambedkar or most great souls of the time) opposed casteist orthodoxy. Modern India owes much to this opposition. The winning coalition of today - which got us the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, and more to come - is first and foremost thanks to these reformists.

The caste orthodoxy understands this opposition very well. Look at this video, which in parts is admittedly tragicomic. There is no middle ground between these positions.

The left will keep using Swami Vivekananda as long as Hinduism is defined as a progressive religion and Swamiji, it's all in all authority (in a way He's so) and this fight the left will win ultimately. It is in the interest of progressive Hindutvites that they start reverting their gaze back to the Orthodox Ācāryas. In such a discourse the right leaning image of SV too will find a place where He criticises the Abrahmics, upholds Advaita superiority, so on and so forth. When the opponents up the ante, retaliate by upping yours not succumbing to it.

True. Temporary only but they have more success with SV than we have with BRA. Because in both the issues they have more grip than us.

Post RKM. People misimagine that RKM took Hindus away from traditional leaning. But it didn't. They worked hard with population with no affiliation and among the newly educated class. This is where they base is. They created a new base and much pervasive one.

He was an icon of Hindutva. Like Hindutva, He too was a product of His time. There are useful similarity in His message with orthodox Hinduism but that would have merited when orthodoxy is to be recognised. In a constantly progressive discourse only a rebellious SJW will emerge.

I am speaking about His messages. The modern Advaita set up is not limited to RKM. There are many such orgs and they weild considerable significance. They had no RSS backing. They have worked hard for it. And it all goes back to Swamiji.

When exactly do you think Swami Ji gained relevance among Hindus (masses)? In the early 1900s. In fact before the 1990s, was it Swami Vivekananda style-advaita that was more famous? More widely accepted?

My family is an example. Maternal Grandfather. Heavily influenced by Sri Aurobindo and RKM. Although absolute Scripturalism is something they deviate from. I did as well.

And everyone in my family is well-read. The works of Swami Karpatri weren't some new discovery for us.

In his video snippet, Dr. @ElstKoenraad debunks the legend of Saint Thomas coming to India and being martyred there, asserting it is entirely fabricated. Historical evidence suggests Thomas never reached India but may have traveled to Afghanistan or eastern Iran. The only source is an apocryphal text written 200 years later, describing Persian-speaking regions. Prashant Kishor really embarrassed himself in the interview with Karan Thapar and came across as someone who simply cannot tolerate being wrong about anything. That said, it’s insane how many people are blindly giving in to the absurd conspiracy theory of PK being a BJP agent.

I wish your charges against Modi were true @Jairam_Ramesh !

To allege that Modi is anti reservations, आरक्षण विरोधी, is a cruel joke.

India today needs a leader who can put an end to all reservations, all quotas.

Pity Congress is stuck with failed formulas.
You are so bright and yet you can’t come up with smarter ideas.

The problem with a BJP voter is their inability to understand that expecting accountability of ministers is not a stand against them. We can question the PM as citizens. We can disagree with his policies. The blind devotion to Modi is more akin to a cult than a democracy

Yes, BJP supporters need to learn from liberals how to ask questions.

Liberals accepted Nehru, Indira G, Rajiv G, Sonia G and now Rahul G as their leader because these were the best talent India could offer. The fact that they are all from same family is pure coincidence, not result of blind devotion.

If you listen closely, in Gayatri Spivak and Martha Nussbaum’s condescending tantrums, you hear the fading roar, or more like the last gasp of not just a generation, but an entire “South Asianist” academic industry that realizes its epistemic monopoly is over.

Intellectual gaslighting has a shelf-life & it’s expired.

Not celebrating, but the heir’s credibility is in shambles. The jig is up—they know we’re on to them and laughing at the absurdity of their covering a political project under a fading veneer of scholarship.

P Katsafanas
… But this last feature will be accidental: I can be devoted to yoga or to a friendship without being willing to impose extreme costs on others so as to secure these goods. The degree of sacrifice that the object of devotion warrants will depend on the …

So, what’s so bad about fanaticism? Is it bad at all? Cassam claims that fanaticism is bad because it involves commitment to a morally reprehensible end. Battaly claims that fanaticism is neutral: it can be bad, but if it is this will be due to the badness of the fanatic’s end rather than to the fact that the person is fanatical. I’ve argued that these accounts mislocate the concern: we should focus not on the fanatic’s object (their end, goal, ideal, etc.), but on the fanatic’s psychological profile. Battaly is right that the fanatic can adopt good or neutral objects, but nonetheless I’ve argued that fanaticism involves an existential defect and a disposition toward violent intolerance. In that sense, fanaticism is bad. Nonetheless, we can be nuanced in our judgments about particular cases of fanaticism.

Fanatics can be directed toward morally praiseworthy goals, and the good effects of fanaticism can in some circumstances outweigh the bad aspects.

In making this argument, I’ve distinguished between devotion and fanaticism. I see this as a significant advantage of my account. It gets us what we want: the idea that there’s an extreme form of commitment that is praiseworthy and that is often necessary to achieve important social and political goals. But my account preserves the idea that fanaticism is a vice. And it allows us to say that there can be cases of devotion gone bad, devotion-turned-badly-fanatical.

I will close by mentioning one further point. Aside from offering us the resources to distinguish devotion from fanaticism, my account has a further advantage: it gives us a way of addressing fanaticism. If the core problem with fanaticism is just that the fanatic is directed toward objectionable ends (Cassam’s view), then the solution is to change people’s ends. But if the core problem with fanaticism is an existential one—a defect of character, of one’s way of relating to value quite generally—then the solution is to change people’s characters. That is no easy task—but, if we have any hope of mitigating the strife and discord caused by fanaticism, it is a crucial one.
